Q & A With Actor Matt Palmer

Matt Palmer is an actor based out of Toronto and has a few exciting projects on the go!  We had a chance to chat with Matt recently.  Take a look!

As a child, did you want to be an actor, or did it fall into place through other activities?

Haha, no not all! I always loved tv and movies, but the thought of actually doing it myself never even popped into my mind. It wasn’t till much later, actually about two years ago that I finally gave it a shot. I was lucky enough to work with some great people right away, and I was hooked!

Who inspired you to follow your dream to pursue acting?

Well at first I wouldn’t say anyone inspired me to pursue acting, but I have definitely had many people inspire me since I started. I’ve been fortunate to work with some really talented actors, directors and crews. Getting positive feedback from people you look up to is always a confidence booster.

What challenges have you faced in the entertainment industry?  What has been your most rewarding experience?

The biggest challenge for me is always scheduling. Having a full-time career outside of the business makes it hard to be available all the time. Unfortunately I’ve  had to turn down a few things that I really wanted to do.  My most rewarding experience? Anytime I get to act is reward enough for me lol! There is such a high level of talent around, I’m really grateful for the  opportunities I’ve been given.

What is your favourite type of character to play?

I love playing a historical character! I like researching the person , and trying to figure out who they were and  what their life might have been like. Then taking all that and hopefully bringing it to life for everyone.

What market do you currently work in?  Are there other areas you would like to work?

Mostly tv and film so far, but going forward I’d like to focus more on film.  Maybe explore some theatre in the future? Who knows, that’s one of the most exciting things about this business, you never know what you’ll be doing next!

What advice would you give to someone new trying to make it in the acting industry?

To just go out and try it! Go out to auditions, keep learning your craft. Don’t get too caught up in having the right look, or the right headshot or all the other things that new actors are told you “MUST” have. That can all come later. The first network TV show I booked, I used a picture of me from a dinner party that I cropped into a headshot lol!

Why , What fuels your passion?

I love that every role is a totally different experience. You get to be a different person in a different place, tell a different story and (my personal favourite) maybe get to be in a different time period!

What is something about you that most people would never guess?

That as much as I love acting, I don’t like seeing myself on-screen! I hardly ever watch anything that I’ve done.

If you were to do it all over again, would you do things exactly the same?  Do you have any regrets?  Successes that make you proud?

The only thing I would change is I would have started earlier. I missed all the “action star” years , I started in the “dad” years LOL.  But all kidding aside, I couldn’t be happier with how things have gone so far. Two years ago I wouldn’t of thought I would be doing an interview for Eboss.  Thanks again Darlene!
